A special counsel has just officially been appointed to continue the investigation of Hunter Biden. This comes after the US Attorney who has been investigating him for more than four years asked to be elevated three days ago.
Now special counsel David Weiss –was appointed by former President Donald Trump in 2018 and asked to stay on the job by President Biden in February of 2021. For more than four years – Weiss has been investigating President Biden’s son. Just a few weeks ago a plea deal between Weiss and Hunter Biden’s lawyers on two misdemeanor charges related to his filing of federal income taxes and diversion for a felony gun charge fell apart. Since then the two sides have been trying to negotiate a new deal but as of today, Weiss’s office said the two sides have come to an impasse and a trial is now in order. So, garland appointed Weiss as a special counsel.
But what does that really mean? The fact is – it’s not a whole lot different than the powers Weiss currently has as the US Attorney for Delaware. The only real significant difference according to the attorney general is that he will ultimately produce a report on his findings and that will be made public. Weiss will continue his investigation.
The White House has not commented on any of the president’s son’s legal issues.
