Former President Donald Trump is now officially under arrest at the federal courthouse in Washington DC.
The former President will be processed and will face a magistrate judge to officially hear the four felony counts he is facing related to his alleged role in the interference of the certification of 2020 election and alleged role in what happened on January 6th.
He will not be in front of judge Tanya Chutkan today. Instead he will be in front of a magistrate judge which is typical for this type of procedural appearance. Judge Chutkan – like judge Cannon in the classified documents case in Florida was randomly selected to preside over Trump’s next hearings and eventual trial.
It’s also important to remember there are *no* cameras, no audio recorders or electronic devices allowed in a federal courtroom. So you will not be seeing the former President inside the courtroom. We may see a sketch, but that’s it. Of course, reporters and some members of the public are allowed to be present.
Just before he left his Bedminster club to travel to Washington DC – Trump seemed to taunt prosecutors on his social media page saying in all caps – I need one more indictment to ensure my election. Exclamation mark.
