Here’s what we know and what we don’t know about that “high altitude object” that the military shot down.
The pentagon just briefed us.
What we know.
- It was first detected yesterday flying over Alaska by the NORAD commander
- Fighter jets were sent up to check it out
- The pilots determined that it was unmanned
- It could not be maneuvered on its own
- It was flying in a north easterly direction
- It was the size of a small car
- The NORAD commander determined it was a threat to air traffic because it was flying at around 40,000 feet
- The President was briefed and gave the order to shoot it down this morning
- A pair of f-22s were sent up there and one shot it down at 1:45 p.m. eastern today
What we don’t know
- The shape of it – though the pentagon did say it was *not similar in size and shape to the spy balloon that we shot down last weekend.
- We don’t know where it came from
- Or who owns it
The northern command is now working to recover the object and its pieces. We’ll get more information soon.
