After years of former President Trump sidestepping the release of his tax returns — we may get to see them after all.
That’s because the House Ways and Means Committee which has been investigating Trump’s taxes for years will meet tomorrow to vote on whether to release some or all of his tax returns to the full House of Representatives, which would basically make them public to all of us. The committee has multiple years of Trump’s tax returns dating back to before he was President.
And here’s the thing, Trump sued the committee over the summer to stop the committee from getting his returns or any public release of them. And took his objection all the way to the Supreme Court and lost.
In most recent years, presidential candidates release their tax returns in full on the campaign trail. Trump chose not to do that.
If the committee decides to release Trump’s taxes, he won’t be the first. The Ways and Means Committee also released confidential tax information in the 1970’s belonging to former President Richard Nixon.
Releasing some or all of Trump’s tax returns are just a few of the committee’s options. We will have to wait until tomorrow to see what they do.
