The Bureau of Labor Statistics says, a new record has been broken. 4.5 million American workers quit their jobs in November 2021 according to the latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover report. November marks the fourth straight month of 4 million plus Americans quitting their jobs. In October, 4.2 million quit, in September 4.4 million quit and in August, 4.3 million quit.
The industry with the highest quit rate was food service, hospitality and leisure.
It’s important to note that just because these people are quitting does not mean these workers are unemployed. In fact, most of these numbers reflect workers quitting for better paying jobs, jobs with better benefits or workers quitting the traditional workforce to become entrepreneurs or retiring altogether.
The report also found, as of the end of November 2021, 10.6 million jobs are still open and 6.7 million workers were hired.
