With the cost of EVERYTHING going up, it’s no surprise the cost of the Thanksgiving dinner has also increased. For the last 36 years the American Farm Bureau Federation goes around the country and checks on the prices of all the traditional Thanksgiving foods.
This survey is conducted at American grocery stores around the same time every year and includes the costs of turkey, pumpkin pie, whipping cream, dinner rolls, cranberries, green beans, whole milk, frozen peas, AND a veggie tray just to name a few.
The Farm Bureau found the cost of those items for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people in the year 2020 was $46.90. And for the year 2021? Thanksgiving dinner for ten costs $53.31. That’s a 14% increase over last year.
The Farm Bureau said the supply chain issues played a role in the increased costs this year. But they also said grocery stores had not yet published their holiday sale prices at the time of the survey. Though the survey takes place at the same time every year, the Farm Bureau says grocery stores put out their sales late for some reason this year.
