A group of landlords and real estate companies want to put a stop to the eviction moratorium extension that I told you about just two days ago in this video. The group just filed an emergency petition with a federal judge in Washington DC.
If only I’d known that was going to happen – oh wait.
So what does this mean for the millions of renters across the country who are relying on that eviction protection to keep them in their homes?
Well, there’s a very good chance the federal judge who is hearing this case will rule against the Biden Administration and say – that it’s not valid. It’ll then move its way through the court system and could find its way back in front of the supreme court.
As I told you in this video, the last time the high court heard this case back in late June, the final vote was 5 to 4 with Justice Kavanaugh voting to preserve it. But in his opinion he said – he agreed with the plaintiff that the CDC overstepped its authority to issue the moratorium in the first place, but he didn’t see the need to put an end to the program because it was scheduled to end on July 31.
Well – this week the c-d-c under the urging of the president, extended the eviction moratorium until October third.
So, what should you do? If you are a renter – I would highly suggest you apply for the nearly $50 billion dollars in rental assistance that’s available through your state or county. It’s very possible this eviction moratorium will go away sooner rather than later.
