Is Trump giving up that $1.8 billion Anti-Weaponization Fund or not?
Well, he was asked today, and you can decide if he’s walking away from it. But I’m going to warn you, this answer is a journey.
See? I told you. A journey.
So is the Anti-Weaponization Fund dead or not?
To be clear, Trump’s own acting Attorney General Todd Blanche testified under oath yesterday that the fund was over. He said it was dead, but he also wouldn’t commit to putting anything in writing.
And Trump’s comments today seem to indicate why.
It’s clear that Trump does not want to give up this taxpayer-funded $1.8 billion fund that would give compensation to people Trump believes were victims of political prosecution by other administrations.
Trump does not want to let it go. You heard him. He says he loves it.
But he may be out of luck because two federal judges have already temporarily blocked it as possibly illegal or possibly even fraudulent.
And now, even Senate Republicans are suggesting they’ll pass a bill to kill it whether Trump likes it or not.
