TikTok will go dark in just a few hours. I’m going to talk about what Trump said today in a second but first – unless something dramatic happens — we are going to have to live through TikTok “going dark.” So what does that actually look like?
That is TikTok’s lawyer talking to the supreme court about what exactly “going dark” means. If we work off of what he told the justices going dark means tonight by 12:01 a.m probably eastern — the app will not function for anyone. That includes you. If you’re watching this video right now – and you currently have tiktok on your phone, I’m talking to you.
Going dark –according to TikTok’s lawyer—does not mean you just won’t be able to download it anymore or get updates from the app store. It means. No one will have access to TikTok. Does that mean when you open the app tomorrow you’ll see a black screen? Does it mean you’ll see a black screen with some kind of note from tiktok? No one can tell you that right now.
But what we *do* know is if the Biden administration doesn’t do something today Saturday January 18th – TikTok is going to be dark for 36 hours. There’s absolutely no getting around it.
Now – president elect trump is reportedly considering some kind of executive order. But as I said in these videos – he can not sign an order that magically makes the ban go away. He can give tiktok some room to operate while he negotiates some kind of resolution but the ban will still be hanging over all of our heads.
And regardless — he can’t do any of that until after noon on January 20th. Please understand trump has absolutely no power to do anything to keep tiktok from going dark between January 19th and noon on January 20th.
That said – I’m here till the wheels fall off so join me live on TikTok tonight at 11 p.m. eastern and 8 pm. Pacific and let’s watch it all happen together.
