President Biden said goodbye tonight in his last Oval Office prime time address. Normally he is extremely optimistic – which he was – but he also spent a lot of time warning all of us about big problems he sees coming in the future.
He also warned about the dangers of climate change and specifically talked about the wild fires in California and the hurricane destruction in North Carolina. He also warned about AI. He said it has the power to change our lives for the better and the worse.
But it definitely was not all doom and gloom. He talked about some of the legislative accomplishments he was proud of and talked about all the big items he said still need fixing. Things like reforming the tax code so it’s fairer for the middle class, getting dark money out of politics, enacting 18-year term limit for the Supreme Court justices, banning Congress from trading stocks while in office, and he suggested – as he has before that we should amend the constitution to say no president is above the law. No president should be immune from prosecution for committing crimes while in office.
He ended by saying thank you.
We may see Biden at a few more smaller events in the next few days but the next time we’ll really see him is on Monday – when president-elect Trump is inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States.
