That was the President this morning – talking about the government shutdown that is just eight days away.
I told you in this video on Tuesday that the new House Speaker wasn’t ready to announce the Republican’s plan to keep the government open. All he said at the time was the conference was working on it. In fact – here’s exactly what he said.
Well now — two days later – it appears – there is still no deal among House Republicans because no official plan has been released to keep the government open.
And the way out of this mess isn’t only up to House Republicans. House Republicans – who are the majority of the House — have to come up with a deal that Senate Democrats – who are the majority in the Senate – can also agree to and the President can sign off on. And let me remind you again – all that has to get done in 8 days.
Senate Democrats have proposed a deal that would include a continuing resolution – which would keep the government temporarily open for a certain amount of time, but it would also include funding for Israel, Ukraine and for the border. It’s a deal – the President said he could get on board with.
But it’s unlikely that deal will fly with House Republicans.
So to answer your question – is the government going to shut down next week. All I can say is – i don’t know.
