The Food and Drug Administration just approved a new round of Covid19 booster shots.
For the first time since vaccines became available, the taxpayers will not be footing the bill for these shots. So they won’t be free through the government but your medical insurance will likely cover it, but you’ll need to check.
The approved shots are from Pfizer and Moderna and specifically formulated to target the currently circulating variants including the new Omicron variant.
So who would be eligible to get this booster? According to the FDA — anyone over the age of five, at least two months after the last dose of any covid19 vaccine. Kids under the age of five – specifically ages six months to four years old, who are either vaccinated or unvaccinated are eligible for this booster too.
Now – this is not over. Tomorrow the CDC’s advisory committee will be meeting to talk more about who should receive this updated vaccine and when. If approved by this committee, both Pfizer and Moderna say the updated boosters could be available by the end of this week.
